Brand, Ross and The Independent

| October 29th, 2008

Spent a few moments fixing a paragraph from The Independent’s editorial on the BBC’s Russell Brand/Jonathan Ross/Andrew Sachs affair:

Now there can be little no doubt that the routine was coarse, juvenile and vindictive, and the language used in respect of the grand-daughter was obscene. But it is precisely this edginess, this pushing of boundaries coarse, vindictive obscenity, that draws listeners to Russell Brand’s shows. This broadcast might have pushed the boundaries somewhat further than others been illegal. But of those who tuned in – an estimated two million – only two apparently felt strongly enough to complain the BBC would take any notice. There is an unfortunate element of “Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells” >Such parochialism dahling in the subsequent flood of apoplexy agreement. The truth is that regular listeners seemed to take the offensiveness in their stride so the BBC is justified in spending a fortune of your money to promulgate obscene and possibly illegal material.

There you go. Fixed.

One Response to “Brand, Ross and The Independent”

  1. Mark Says:

    • Ross and Brand are skilled at what they do!
    • They are however paid too much for what they do!
    • So this bad taste out take allows the BBC to save face by dropping their salary to minimum wage.
    • In a recession this is very handy!
    • It’s in fact a dream ticket for the BBC.

    • On Legal grounds however if it was sanctioned by higher level of the BBC then it was a set up!
    • Ross and Brand can clean up (big time)!
    • If it was a lapse on the regular management of judgment of the decision of Ross and Brand to find humor which in the past posed no problem then Ross & Brand can claim against the BBC for substantial damages including loss of future earnings.
    • This is a dream ticket for Ross on 6 a year and even for brand.
    • The BBC could well have kicked themselves in the balls! Twice!
    • That hurts!
    • It hurts the license payer as much!
    • It marks the end of the BBC, brought down by two comedians! Ross & Brand. It proves the license fee we paid was inappropriate and ideology of the BBC was in fact a joke!
