		<description>What I find more frightening that the ignorance (or lazy management) at Woolworth's are the inconsistent responses from consumers.  Lots of the chat posts read something like "so what, Lolita is a word, so why all the fuss?"  If consumers are no better educated than the marketers, this creates a strange dynamic for how commerce is conducted.  There's always going to be a special interest group ready to protest the improper uses of semi-colons...but where is the broad, general understanding of history, culture, right vs. wrong, yadda yadda, upon which we rely to run not just commerce, but society overall?  Probably a bit of an overkill...awareness of Nabokov isn't synonymous with, say, memory of WWII or something, but once you dive into the details of even the most basic educational tenet, you start to get some weird variations...
