Coelacanth, Human, Herring
| June 1st, 2006Noticing a post on BoingBoing about the coelacanth I half-remembered a suprising fact about taxonomy, looked it up and saw it’s true – the coelacanth is more closely related to humans than to the herring.

Lobe-finned fishes (coelacanth, lungfish) are considered the ancestors of all four-limbed vertabrates and current coelacanths. Appearances can be deceptive. Now, I think I read once that fungi are closer to animals than plants. Must go check.
