Sony Rootkit and BoingBoing

leave a comment

BoingBoing has been in full pursuit of Sony’s rootkit debacle – so why are they taking their eye off the ball – Sony – by attacking individual programmers doing their jobs?

BoingBoing has been digging up newsgroup postings that reveal – guess what – that programmers ask each other for help. Specifically, they think it worthwhile attacking a First4Internet programmer for seeking help.

BoingBoing is, of course, stuffed with programmers whose almost magical expertise springs fully formed from nothing and who never have to please the boss. All the same maybe they should remind themselves of their real objections.

w.bloggar…not sure why

leave a comment

w.bloggar is a blogging tool from Marcelo Cabral and I’m not sure yet if I’ll find any use for it. It’s an offline weblog editor that’ll interface to many of the most popular weblogging software – Moveable Type, Typepad, WordPress and the rest. As I’m online with a broadband connection all the time and the WordPress editing interface isn’t too bad at all I can’t see why I wouldn’t use the out-of-the-box editing environment. I’ll use it for a while, see if there’s any point.

Rails makeover delay

leave a comment

The touted Ruby on Rails makeover of this site hasn’t happened yet…so the weblog feed’s back on the front page for a bit. Thing is, I don’t have enough time to get down to it – and I can’t really see it happening until Christmas now.

I have installed everything, I think, on a development machine and that wasn’t exactly easy. Then I was waylaid by work and podcasting experiments (soon, ‘vodcasting’ – video casting – that name can’t last, surely). Then I had no time left. By the time I get round to it I guess it won’t be cutting edge anymore – by which I mean it might actually be usable – I think I’ve already come across one development environment for it.
